Ancient Egyptian Language and Texts (AEWA/OEVA, 2023/24)

This course will introduce students to the hieroglyphic script and the basic grammar of the classical phase of the ancient Egyptian language (Middle Egyptian). A core component of the course will be the in-class translation and discussion of sample sentences and short passages taken from various texts. At the end of the course, students will be able to read, translate, and analyse basic Middle Egyptian texts written in hieroglyphs.
